So, it’s Disc Golf

Sometimes the things you write about include a crash course, found online of course, about the product. Fortunately, I understand Golf, so grasping the concept of Disc Golf was not terribly difficult.

Here's the deal, if you're any good "at-all" with a Frisbee, then Disc Golf is the game for you. The discs are made in three different categories:

The Driver is a disc that is built for speed and distance. It has a beveled edge with the bulk of the disc concentrated on the outer rim.

The Midrange is a disc, also built for speed and distance but it's an over stable disc with fairly straight line performance.

The putter is primarily used for short range shots at the pole basket.

The disc takes the place of the golf club and the tee pad (6-feet by 10-feet of concrete) takes the place of the golf tee. The pole-basket takes the place of the cup, in the hole, in golf. The pole-basket is a rather awkward-looking piece of metal pole with a round wide basket two-thirds of the way off the ground, and in side this basket—hanging from the pole—are mass of chains that catch or snare the disc. As with golf, disc golf is played with eagles, birdies, par, bogies, double-bogies, and triple-bogies. There are areas that are out of bounds, and there are obstacles, trees, water hazards, etc.

There are videos on YouTube and instructions online at several sites. What is certain is that the sport is growing at 12 to 15-percent annually and there are almost 3000 courses, nationwide. There are 3000 courses worldwide and there are tournaments with substantial funds to be gained by the winner. Naturally, those of us that never learned to throw a Frisbee accurately, will be sitting on the sidelines watching this sport take shape and possibly seeing it as an Olympic competition in the not-too distance future.

Hmm. I"m okay at frisbee... sounds interesting. But I don't know if I'll get around to trying it! It sounds like it would be a pretty amusing Olympic sport!

Lmaoo...I stand a better chance of hitting a hole on a golf course than I do of hitting a basket the size of a 5-gallon bucket with a frisbee-shaped thing...:P
